When they are already in the building, in the sub-floor, wall cavities, door frames, skirting or roof timbers, we treat the active workings to eliminate the colony and stop the damage going further. When they are still out in the grounds, in trees, stumps, fences, retaining walls or garden timbers, we treat the colony there and protect the property before they reach the house. Either way, the job is scoped and quoted for your situation, not priced off a list.

I have found termites in my house. What should I do first?

Do not disturb them. Do not break open the mud tubes, spray them with a retail product, or move the infested timber, because that can scatter the colony deeper into the property and make it harder to treat. Leave the activity alone and call Northern Rock. We will inspect the property, scope the treatment, and give you a free quote.

Can I treat termites myself with a product from the hardware store?

We strongly advise against it. Retail sprays kill the few termites you can see but tend to scatter the rest of the colony, which keeps feeding elsewhere on the property. Professional treatment targets the colony at the source. On a Top End property, where termite pressure is high year-round, that is the difference between the problem stopping and the problem spreading.

Does Northern Rock treat termites in the yard and garden, or only in the house?

Both. Northern Rock treats termites that are already in the building, and termites that are active out in the grounds, in trees, stumps, fences, retaining walls or garden timbers, before they reach the house. Treating them in the yard early is one of the best ways to protect the building.
